Confirel enables farmers to play an active role in the global economy, by becoming producers – and not only consumers – in North/South trade.Cambodia has been and remains anessentially rural country, affected by wars, misery and landmines. Confirel enables

rural populations to find an opening and to diversify their activities beyond rice-planting.

By focusing on exports, Confirel aims at demonstrating that – despite its difficult times – the Kingdom of Cambodia can become a place where a sound economic initiative can succeed: moving away from the status of an importing country to become a country that is able to export genuine products, in tune with the consumers’ concerns about food security.

The concept behind Confirel ensures Cambodian countryside of sustainable development based on sugar palm tree while preserving the environment.

Palm sugar is not yet well-known in Europe. It is a traditional sugar, produced for self-consuming, gifts to monks and relatives and local marketing. It has only been exported to South Vietnam in the 50s and 60s.
